Confusion

Didn't that one episode, 3F31 - The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular in season 7, episode 10, say that it said "NRA4EVER?" What's up with this then? It says "847.63!"

Explanation from Bruce Gomez of snpp.com

I emailed Bruce Gomez of snpp.com, in charge of "The Maggie File." Within the day, he responded with..

Greetings!

Thanks for writing The Simpsons Archive.

"NRA4EVER" is just a very well know joke the writers were playing on the audience.

General background information like this is documented in the Simpsons FAQ, which can be found here;
http://www.snpp.com/guides/lisa.html

Where you'll find the following information documented;
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How much does Maggie cost in the opening titles?

Maggie is listed as costing $847.63, a figure once given as the amount of money required to raise a baby for one month in the US.

But the trivia question in The 138th Episode Spectacular said that the cash register read "NRA4EVER". What's going on here?

The trivia questions in The 138th Episode Spectacular are gags made to troll the audience, just like the images of Matt Groening, James L. Brooks, and Sam Simon in the episode are not what those people really look like. The cash register question is a gag referring to the people who have labeled the show as "the most liberal on television" by portraying it as having an ultra-conservative slant.

On your web site you have; (Note: I have taken off some because of this email.)
"It could be possible that that's just that one episode, but who knows".

Who knows? We know. Whenever they show the opening (for some episodes it's skipped or truncated, which we also document) they show this scene and it always has 847.63.

"The Simpsons are known for adding crazy little things. I don't know how long they've had this intro..."

We know how long they've had the intro. They've used that intro since the first season.

"snpp.com - A very popular fan site. "

Thanks - and yes, we're the number one Simpson web site. Ahead of the official site.

Feel free to write again!

The Simpsons are known for adding crazy little things. Because of its hilarity and also because of loyal watchers (even when the season is going badly), lots of fans have risen, and so have many fan pages.

If you're a fan or interested in The Simpsons, a few links: Boy, do I feel dumb. Ever since I saw that episode however many years ago (I must have been...8 years old) I thought that's what it really said. Good joke, writers, especially that it's only now that I realize it was a joke.
